Maokola Market in Downtown Accra 9/25/2017

Linda went to the Makola Market in downtown Accra with several women to buy fabric.  Linda had skirts and dresses made from the fabric she bought.  Stay tuned for the end product!  Makola Market is a renowned market place and shopping district. One can find a wide array of products being sold in the market and surrounding streets, from car parts to land snails. The market, dominated by women traders, sells fresh produce, manufactured and imported foods, clothes, fabric, shoes, tools, medicines, and pots and pans. All these pics were taken as she walked through the market.

A woman can never get enough shoes!

One of many fabric shops.  This is Linda's friend, Bernice, on the left, who took her and some other ladies through the market. She is a seamstress and knows how to get around the market. She knows most of the shop owners, especially the ones running the fabric shops. The lady on the right is a member of our church and owns this shop.

This is some kind of a drink that she is preparing.

She gave us a sample to taste and it was pretty good! I don't remember what she said it was.

Alterations while you wait!

  1. Loved the very cool antique sewing machine they were using! And also that you have no idea what was in that drink! 😂😂

  2. What a wonderful experience! Small businesses is one of the ways to make enough money to have somewhere to live and food for the family. That hairstyle probably cost $4 there and would cost $60 here in the US.
