The Journey Begins...

Received mission call to West Africa Area (based in Ghana) on May 9, 2017

Welcome to the Wakild Blog!  It’s a “first of its kind” for us and only exists because our grandson Hunter and his girl friend Hailey helped us figure it out before we left the states.

Our deciding to serve this church mission to Ghana, Africa has prompted many of you to ask about our beliefs and what has taken us to spending 18 months for the benefit of others.   Hopefully, this brief reply is useful and if you want to know more, just let us know!

“Are Mormons Christians?”  As a converted Catholic, I can say, absolutely YES!   We are Christians who believe as most of you do.  That is, that we have a Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, who came to earth to pay the price for all our sins so as to allow all mankind the opportunity to live eternally with Him.  (In fact, our church bears the Savior’s name:  “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”.   We believe the Old and New Testament to be God’s word to man, which He expressed through His prophets of days long ago.

So, why are you called “Mormons”?
We believe that man has been on the American Continents for many years before and after Christ.  A record of the people was kept and handed down generation to generation by the Lord’s prophet of the day.  About 1820 the record was made known to young Joseph Smith of New York State, who through the power of God translated the book.  It became known as “The Book of Mormon” because an ancient prophet named “Mormon” actually compiled the records of many other prophets. The book’s most significant entries foretell the coming of the Savior and the actual visit to the Americas by Him after he had been crucified.  Thus, the subtitle to the book:  “Another Testament of Jesus Christ”.  We believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God just as we do the bible.  Again, yes, we are believers in our Savior.

Service to others is one way we try to follow the Savior’s example.  Our church is global and organized in a way that provides for many different service opportunities near our homes and around the world.

In fact, Linda and I have been devoting time over the past two years to our church’s Addiction Recovery Program in the Crestwood area.  We felt personally impressed to devote our full attention to service and, for us, this church mission fit the bill.  We hope that our service enhances lives and brings folks unto Christ as we undertake our adventure of a lifetime!

Thanks for staying in touch!  We look forward to hearing from you too!
